Challenge means different things for different people. So ask yourself: What kinds of challenges would give you the most satisfaction? Could you push yourself to go out and meet new people? Perhaps it’s time to enrol in that course that you never quite found the motivation to start. Or maybe you really need to get into a proper exercise routine.

Once you start embracing challenge and pushing the bounds of your comfort zone, you’ll see for yourself just how rewarding it can be. Feelings of satisfaction and accomplishment are addictive! Not only that, but comfort itself is infinitely more enjoyable when there is discomfort to contrast it against. Just think how much better it feels to flop onto the couch with a cup of tea and a blanket after a long, brisk hike than after yet another day of air-conditioned comfort.

Comfort is a nourishing, essential ingredient to a well-lived life. But so is discomfort.
